the gasket should be overlapped as illustrated.

When
working on the corners, it is vital for the gasket to cover the
ends of the flanges and the raw end of the duct (as shown
above).
8a.
Overlap the gasket material over the corners in an S loop.
8b. Cut 8 pieces of the gasket in 3" to 4" pieces and apply them
on both of the mating corners. Then, apply the gasket to one of
the mating frames.
This method is recommended by the
manufacturer.
